In the Glemm Valley, right in the heart of the Saalbach Hinterglemm vacation region, your stay at Hotel Marten doesn’t begin with a plan, but with a feeling: You arrive—and everything around you already seems to be in motion.

Your hiking vacation in the Salzburg region doesn’t start here on a map, but in the moment itself. The air feels clearer, the mountains closer, the trails almost naturally there. Forests, alpine pastures, and mountain ranges intertwine like chapters of a landscape that slowly draws you forward without rushing you.

Hiking in Saalbach Hinterglemm isn’t just about racking up miles; it’s an interplay of rhythm, silence, and sweeping views. Every step becomes part of a movement that defies measurement.

At times, the trail winds through a cool forest where the light hangs softly between the trees. Then, suddenly, the landscape opens up—alpine meadows, ridges, and peaks standing on the horizon like thoughts. It is precisely here that the feeling of a true hiking hotel in Saalbach Hinterglemm unfolds: peaceful, flowing, and close to nature.

The mountain summer in Austria reveals itself anew every day—fresh and green in the morning, clear and rocky at noon, golden and soft in the evening light.

Paths that feel like stories

The Glemmtal valley branches off in many directions right around your hotel, offering plenty of hiking opportunities in Austria. Each route tells its own little story.

The Gentle Trail – Zwölferkogel Höhenweg
A gentle ascent: Start at the Zwölferkogelbahn (mid-station), then return to the valley along scenic trails; approx. 3.5 hours of walking time. Gentle contours, water, stone, and alpine meadows accompany you. Again and again, the view opens up to the valley, as if the landscape itself were briefly looking back.

The expansive trail – Hochalmspitze Loop
Here, hiking in Saalbach becomes a feeling of freedom. Start at the Hochalm (Hochalmbahn top station), approx. 7.4 km and 460 m elevation gain. The trail isn’t just part of the landscape—it glides right over it. The view stretches far, and your thoughts go even further.

The quiet trail – Lengau at the valley head
The deeper you go into the valley, the quieter everything becomes. Approx. 11.3 km, 3–4 hours walking time. Forest, water, shade—that’s all you need. The Hinterglemm hiking trails show their quietest side here: unspectacular, and all the more impressive for it.

The Pleasure Trail – Mountain Huts & Alms
Sometimes the journey is just a means to an end: Many hikes lasting between 1 and 3 hours lead to alms where wood crackles, the kitchen smells of fresh food, and time suddenly slows down. Hiking becomes a break—and a break becomes pure enjoyment.

The Early Trail – Sunrise on the Saalkogel
You set off before the valley even wakes up. A 2.5–3-hour ascent into the darkness, which slowly grows lighter. And then that moment when the day breaks over the peaks—calm, clear, and natural.

Interactive Hiking Map – Navigating by Feel

The interactive hiking map is less about technology and more of an invitation. You see trails, but what you really see are possibilities: short loops through the forest, long high-altitude trails, days spent reaching summits, or quiet afternoons with no set destination.

This is how your hiking vacation in the Salzburg region takes shape on the spur of the moment. The experience is complemented by guided hikes as part of our weekly events, as well as “Bergglitzern” in the Glemmtal Mountains—a special outdoor experience exclusively for women. You can get all the details directly from us at the front desk or via the link below.

Hiking with children here is all about discovery, not planning. A stream becomes an adventure, a mountain pasture a destination, a rock a little world of its own. Between Schattberg, Zwölferkogel, and Reiterkogel, trails emerge that take everyone along—without pressure, but with plenty of space.

At Kohlmais, a walk turns into a game: on Montelino’s Adventure Trail, little explorers help the clown Montelino find his friends. Right below, the Learn To Ride Park invites you to try biking for the first time. And on the Kodoks Knowledge Trail, the mountain world becomes an open-air classroom.

At the end of the valley, nature awaits in its most pristine form: the Wildlife Trail, a high ropes course, and plenty of space for courage, movement, and curiosity. This is how a mountain summer in Austria becomes an experience that brings generations together.
