Winter days ought to be a little more tranquil. At the head of the valley in Saalbach Hinterglemm, just a few minutes from the hotel, you will find a winter world full of tranquillity; a world that is natural and idyllic. A horse-drawn carriage ride to Lindlingalm is a special experience. Once you arrive at your destination, the “Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps” is waiting for you, which leads to the treetop trail. One of the best ways to experience the winter landscape is on a winter hike. The winter sun is your constant companion. And if it doesn't show up, a winter hike in the snow has a very special flair.

The Fairytale Forest in Hinterglemm is worth a visit at any time of the year and is easy to walk to from the Hotel Marten – it is a mere 1.2 km to this magical place. Immerse yourself in the world of ‘Mother Hulda’, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and other well-known fairytales. In this carefully designed fairytale forest you will be take back to the stories of your childhood and enjoy a magical time. The Fairytale Forest provides exciting adventures for children in particular, after all, it is part of the Kids Hiking Challenge and the Kids Winter Challenge. The Fairytale Forest is illuminated in the evenings and is accessible in the winter too, making it a wonderful, year-round excursion destination for families.

All beginnings are difficult 
It's best to send the kids to a bike camp or hire a bike instructor to show them the basics. Only when they feel confident on the bike can they get a taste of the big world of bike trails.

Tip for all kids and beginners: The Learn to Ride Park in Saalbach!

Chamois, foxes, golden eagles, deer and co. are masters in the game of hide-and-seek and only lucky people can tell about an encounter. But on this exploratory tour on the nature trail you are guaranteed to meet a devout golden eagle, a playful chamois, a curious marmot, a sly fox and a magnificent stag. The life-size wooden figures can even be stroked. The absolute highlight of the nature trail: the majestic alpine ibex - the "Kings of the Alps" - awaits a visit at the end.

A magical world, all about water! Teufelswasser is a big theme park with many different options for playing and wellness. A “Kneipp” pool, a fish-pond, a wooden playhouse, rock pool, cave path, herbs-of-the-alps-path and the dragon square, fairy and gnome world, and the dancing and forests ghosts. Of course, resting areas were also taken into account during planning.

Fun fact: The Devil's Water owes its name to the infamous legend of the Devil's Leap in Hinterglemm.

From the Hotel Marten you get to head straight out into a first-class bike adventure – the Hochalm Trail. For a relaxed option, tackle the first 500 metres of ascent in the comfort of the Reiterkogelbahn, or take the Martenweg straight from the hotel and ride up to Rosswaldhütte. Once you get there, the route heads to Reichkendlkopf, continuing along the ridge to the Spieleck mountain station. The climb is rewarded with a highlight – a long descent through the picturesque scenery of the Pinzgau grass mountains. The tour finishes at the head of the valley. From there, relax and head back to Saalbach Hinterglemm or, for those of you who are really keen, continue on to the Ossmannalm Trail.

Over 40 mountain huts with traditional delicacies make the region the perfect destination for e-bikers. Marked routes offer the opportunity to explore the mountains effortlessly and enjoy the landscape to the full. But flowing trails and tracks also give e-bikers the necessary kick for an exciting day on the bike. The Marten and the Alm 1350 are the perfect starting point for your bike tours.

Whether big fat drops of rain are falling from the sky, or the muscles are aching after a strenuous hike or bike ride and you are looking for a leisurely alternative programme? The Saalbach Homestead Museum and the neighbouring Ski Museum offer a perfect alternative to mountains and trails.

To say that a visit to the beautiful Homestead Museum is only recommended in the case of bad weather would be incorrect, as it is the cultural centre piece of the Saalbach Hinterglemm community. Already, as you approach the house, you will be greeted by an array of flowers and an elaborate fence which has been erected according to true Pinzgau tradition. In the middle of this beautiful landscaped area you will find the Homestead House – an old ancestral farm dating back to the year 1350, which was rebuilt on this site and used as the Austrian House for the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1991.

You won’t forget this panoramic view in a hurry. The hike starts right outside the Hotel Marten, where you have the option to either walk the first ascent or relax, and take the Reiterkogelbahn. From the Rosswaldhütte the trail passes the chapel, continuing to climb up to the Hochalmspitze. You get to experience some really varied scenery along the route, which is just magical with meadows, little streams and the fascinating flora and fauna of Pinzgau’s grass mountains. After enjoying a longer spell at the summit, head back to the Hotel Marten via Martenweg, where you can then treat yourself to some well-deserved relaxation in MarliSpa.

The Talschluss Höhenweg is a panoramic circular trail amidst the impressive Alpine landscape. The entire route offers wonderful views of the valley and the surrounding mountains such as Staffkogel, Tristkogel, Gamshag and Schusterkogel. The view at the end of the valley is particularly impressive, with the majestic Hochkönig looming on the horizon. A real highlight for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts!

The 3-summit hike is a real experience for summiteers of all ages. On panoramic paths, the route leads over gentle ridges, past lush alpine meadows where cows and horses graze peacefully. The picturesque Hacklberg lakes are a particular highlight of this tour - an idyllic place to pause, refresh and enjoy. The crystal-clear lakes invite you to cool off on warm days, while cozy benches invite you to linger and marvel. An unforgettable day surrounded by beautiful nature!
