Winter at the valley head
Thick with snow; wild and romantic
Winter days ought to be a little more tranquil. At the head of the valley in Saalbach Hinterglemm, just a few minutes from the hotel, you will find a winter world full of tranquillity; a world that is natural and idyllic. A horse-drawn carriage ride to Lindlingalm is a special experience. Once you arrive at your destination, the “Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps” is waiting for you, which leads to the treetop trail. After a winter stroll through the treetops, Lindlingalm invites you to head in and warm yourself. While the little ones enjoy a hot chocolate, the adults can relax with a cup of ‘Jagatee’ (tea with rum), before you all head back to the valley again on your toboggans.
Fairytale Forest

The Fairytale Forest in Hinterglemm is worth a visit at any time of the year and is easy to walk to from the Hotel Marten – it is a mere 1.2 km to this magical place. Immerse yourself in the world of ‘Mother Hulda’, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and other well-known fairytales. In this carefully designed fairytale forest you will be take back to the stories of your childhood and enjoy a magical time. The Fairytale Forest provides exciting adventures for children in particular, after all, it is part of the Kids Hiking Challenge and the Kids Winter Challenge. The Fairytale Forest is illuminated in the evenings and is accessible in the winter too, making it a wonderful, year-round excursion destination for families.
Hochalm Trail
Bike tour straight from the hotel
From the Hotel Marten you get to head straight out into a first-class bike adventure – the Hochalm Trail. For a relaxed option, tackle the first 500 metres of ascent in the comfort of the Reiterkogelbahn, or take the Martenweg straight from the hotel and ride up to Rosswaldhütte. Once you get there, the route heads to Reichkendlkopf, continuing along the ridge to the Spieleck mountain station. The climb is rewarded with a highlight – a long descent through the picturesque scenery of the Pinzgau grass mountains. The tour finishes at the head of the valley. From there, relax and head back to Saalbach Hinterglemm or, for those of you who are really keen, continue on to the Ossmannalm Trail.

Hochalmspitze
One of our favourite hiking trails
You won’t forget this panoramic view in a hurry. The hike starts right outside the Hotel Marten, where you have the option to either walk the first ascent or relax, and take the Reiterkogelbahn. From the Rosswaldhütte the trail passes the chapel, continuing to climb up to the Hochalmspitze. You get to experience some really varied scenery along the route, which is just magical with meadows, little streams and the fascinating flora and fauna of Pinzgau’s grass mountains. After enjoying a longer spell at the summit, head back to the Hotel Marten via Martenweg, where you can then treat yourself to some well-deserved relaxation in MarliSpa.
The ‘Gasslfest’
Every Monday from the end of June until September
It’s well worth making a trip to the ‘Gasslfest’ street market in Hinterglemm – and a relaxing evening stroll from the Hotel Marten will take you right there. An impressive summer evening awaits, with regional exhibitors presenting hand-made specialities and traditional hand crafts. Delicious treats from Alpine and international cuisine, stalls with lovely food and cosy seating tempt you to linger. Meanwhile the open-air concerts and variety-packed programme for children provide entertainment, making ‘Gasslfest’ the perfect summer evening for all the family.
